An oyster at O Ya is not going to be served my favorite way – with a tiny squeeze of lemon. Rather the oysters are more tricked out than I like. The better of the two is the Kumamoto oyster with watermelon pearls and cucumber mignonette. It is a very refreshing take on the oyster and a fun detour away from my purist tendencies.
Less successful (in my opinion) is the fried oyster with aioli and squid ink bubbles. We live in New England and I firmly believe that oysters of the quality we get around here should not be fried. Ever. Of course the Kumamoto oyster is not from around here (not sure why they do not use a local oyster) but it is an excellent oyster and by frying it loses all character. Sad. That said people love this bite and if fried food is your thing and you are sitting at the counter at O Ya give it a try.
