When we take off for Paris this is the view. The sun setting and night moving in. We try to catch a few hours sleep on the plane and before long you are landing in Paris!
When we arrive from the east coast it is lunchtime in Paris but our internal body clock is thinking breakfast. What to do? Récamier of course! It is located on Rue Récamier which is basically a quiet oasis of an alley off of Rue de Sèvres. It is also only five minutes from La Grande Épicerie which is an amazing place to stop by and provision up after lunch if you are renting an apartment in Paris. If it is a nice day, you can sit outside on the terrace at Récamier. On this particular day, it was a bit chilly but we are hardy New Englanders so we braved the cold and crisp fall afternoon.
What to order? Our first go-to dish is the souffle fromages (four cheese) (19.5€) . It is literally as light as air – breakfast posing as lunch. Gorgeous!
I would point out that Julia Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” spends thirteen pages describing the proper technique to perfect the French omelette. French chefs take real pride in their omelette skills and Récamier’s mushroom omelette (18.5€) is perfection. This one is with girolle mushrooms a.k.a. the chanterelle.
We rounded out our lunch with a roquette (arugula) and parmesan salad (8.5€). A couple of espressos and we are ready for Paris!
